(no subject)
it is gloomy as hell outside today.
which is also my outlook for this next semester.
so. here's my dilemma. on the one hand, i have a 2.14 GPA in my major, which rocks so hard i can barely stand it. because i thought it was worse. granted, i probably have to have one more class taken in my major before they let me get apply for it, but i've read the requirements and they say i need a 2.0 in french alone, and(/or, since i can't really tell by the website) a 2.0 overall.
i have a 1.588.
so on UofL's site, there's this GPA simulator, where you can find out what gpa you need on a semester to meet your target gpa. so. i check it out. i've got 61 hours thus far, and i plan on taking 12 or 13 hours next semester. to get a 2.0, you know what i need?
a GPA for the semester of 3.93 to 4.09. WHAT? i hate school.
so, i mean, it's not *bad*, per se. just... i mean, it's a little rough thinking that i've gotta ace every fucking class to even be able to stay in school.
and this doesn't even cover the way my schedule's supposed to look. i know i've got 2 full years ahead of me. 2 falls, 2 springs, at least 1 summer. possibly 2. at any rate, i plotted out what i've got to do over the next coupla years. before, it was simpler. i had 2 full years, plus 2 full summers, but it would've worked. graduated in 2009.
here's how it stands right now:
fall 08- elective, elective, social science, extra credit hour, substitution for fail. (this is my easy semester to get me back in school and bring my grades up. i have to ace all of these classes to get a 2.0.)
spring 09- elective, 300 level humanities, 300 level social science, fren 332 (france today). (i have to ace fren 332 to keep my GPA above a 2 for french. i can't apply for a major until this semester.)
summer 09- 2 300 level humanities, humanities 59[1-6] (perspectives on history). (subject to max hours taken for summer semesters. and scheduling.)
fall 09- 300 level humanities, fren 331 (french civ), fren 455 (french lit), fren 523 (communication). (my hardest semester yet, because i've yet to pass french civ and french lit.)
spring 10- 300 level humanities, fren 524 (translation), fren 590 (senior capstone), [insert class here to go full time].
summer 10- fren 552 (study abroad).
do you see my dilemma? do you? i'm stuck. all in all, it's not *bad* so much as it SUCKS. i can't fit in my 500 level elective in french (the study abroad) any sooner than after i should be graduating. it'll either take a full semester of my time (which means i'd still have to shuffle classes and would end up graduating in the winter of 2010 anyway), or i'll have to really buckle down and hope i get to go to france/canada this coming summer (all subject to grades, acceptance into the major, application for studying abroad, money, and a whole helluva lotta luck, not to mention having to shuffle classes again).
if i make it to france this summer (please god let that happen), that will be the only thing that saves me. because that means my final semester will be 2 300 levels in humanities, and two french classes. and i'll graduate in the spring. woo.
so, i've got one pseudo-simple semester ahead of me. and 4 more dreaded tough ones. and this has nothing at all to do with the fact that next summer? i was planning on going to visit my Juanboy, The New Boy, Miami, and london and paris and greece and italy. i can't win! the only way i'll be able to graduate in some semblance of reasonable timing and still have the opportunity to visit my boy is to either [a] jump right into all the hard work again and pray i ace the two classes i've yet to actually pass in french, or [b] take a bunch of extra credit hours i don't need and push things off 'til a later date. neither of which i want to do.
do you catch my dilemma? either i make myself focus on school, school, school and pray i don't fail or that no one gets sick again..... or i drag this thing out longer and longer as a result and hope that no one gets sick again.
of course, i could always just quit. i'm basically dropped out now anyway. it's just that i haven't accomplished a damn thing, and it's making me both proud and envious as hell that my old friends are graduating and accomplishing things. all i've done is get bigger muscles taking care of my mom.
i dunno. this is annoying as hell.
