wellownedbkupi'm so absolutely undecided about using my "nerd" icon and my "you say clever like it's a bad thing" icon for this post.
in short: hey, guess who's moving up the geek chain/corporate ladder?
in long: so my department (computer resource labs) got sold to another department (REACH: tutoring) here on campus. since i was not a student, nor would i be a B average student at any time in the near future, i was under the impression that i was losing my job. REACH doesn't hire temps or D+ average students. heh.
so i've been looking for work. preferrably close to my mom , cause she can't walk, but mostly any job that would help me continue to pay my bills. but no one was hiring. either you had to be a student with work-study financial aid (wasn't and won't be), or you have to be a temp that would accept swing shifts (not a temp anymore and swing shifts??). FAIL. so, no job. i was going to make my way over to the other set of labs (business school took over their own labs this spring and therefore weren't sold to REACH) and apply, but i was told that i may not get the hours i want/need. and i'd still only get minimum wage.
enter Boss M. coolest of cool bosses, we've talked about EVERYTHING under the sun, including knowing what it's like to live in an all black neighborhood and you're singled out, and her awesome motorcycle. basically, we only differ where it comes to she has a kid and a military background. she tried to get in touch with me yesterday, but couldn't. see me be scared, since i haven't really been doing my work.
but Boss M comes to me this morning and offers me the student manager position that's opening up on the downtown campus. SAY WHAT?? it's a $1.50-2.50 raise per hour, still set my own schedule, still nowhere near as busy as it could be, and i get managerial cred on my resume. MANAGER. MAN.A.GERRRRRRRRRRRR.
finally! staying at a job for two years finally MEANS something.
of course, this is all contingent on that FAA job not coming through for about a year. and now i worry about my mom, because she doesn't have anyone looking after her while she's working. but... a raise! manager!! A RAISE. and being my own supervisor most of the time!!
*sigh* things are working out for me, this time.
