Jan. 25th, 2007 11:32 pmIt is no secret to anyone who knows me that I need to lose weight. At least 100 pounds, if not more. In my family, everyone is sick and or dying/dead of diabetes (and complications thereof), high blood pressure, hypertension, etc. My doctor says at the rate I'm going, I'll be blind and an amputee in less than 20 years... closer to 10.
What I would like to do is start a new project (just like my friend![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
triskeles, who's inspired this whole thing). I want to get sponsors, anyone willing to donate a sum of money for every pound that I lose in 2007. Starting from today. I will weigh myself and give everyone who is interested in participating my totals each month in an e-mail. The proceeds will go to the American Diabetes Association, where you can donate online in a person's (well, mine, I think) name. No new wardrobes will be bought with this money, I promise!
This is something that is very dear to me, and I hope that you all participate. Even if it is only a penny a pound. Donate what you can give. If you would like to donate just a set amount, that is fine as well.
I want to do something useful for the community as a whole, as well as something healthy for myself. My pledge to you is that I will lose weight, and I promise to do my best to get to a healthy weight so that I can be around to bug you for many years to come. And in the meantime, we can raise money for a great cause.
And, because I know that trying to send money as a college student is nearly impossible, I would also appreciate moral support. Write me a letter telling me that you love me! Come make me take a walk with you instead of sitting at my desk through my break. Make me promise to do more. Call me at 6:30 in the morning EST and make me get up and go to the gym.
So there it is, a pledge, a promise and a cause.
P.S You don't even have to tell me what you are contributing. All you need to do is let me know that you are going to participate and give me an e-mail address to where I can send the numbers. I would rather not do this publically for people who are not interested to see. Thank you for your support!
