Jan. 21st, 2008 03:28 am1. Your genre(s)?
romance, lit fic, mainstream fiction
2. How many books have you completed?
not a one. i was almost finished with one before my hard drive was wiped about 3 years ago.
3. How many books are you working on now?
7-- (1)life @ 23 [3/8 chapters finished], (2)The Longest Day [1/?, abandoned], (3)Remember Today {Fire and Desire} [planned], (4)Rosebuds and the Daughter of Vines [2.5/?, on hiatus], (5)The Round Table [74/100 chapters done], (6)sanpit (4/? chapters done, chp 5 WIP], (7)The Lessers [.5/?, abandoned]
4. Are you a linear or chunk writer?
mostly linear. i find if i go chunky, i'll lose my continuity. occasionally i'll write short stories of future and past that are incorporated into the novel later, but i generally see those as apocrypha, not entirely canon, and thus non-linear and non-essential.
5. The POV you're most partial to?
third, semi-limited. i like not knowing everything about the character because i like to be surprised every now and again too. but i allow my writing to know more about some of the other characters than third person limited allows.
6. The theme that keeps cropping up in your books?
love. always love. a search for self.
7. How many days a week do you write?
when i'm on a roll, every day. when i'm in a rut (read: right now), i'm doing good to get a day a week. it's not my first priority, though i try to remember to do a little everyday on my latest endeavor (sanpit)
8. What time of day do you get your best writing done?
i'm brilliant at 1 to 3 in the morning, when i should be asleep (read: now), but i was doing really well writing at work in the early morning when no one was around and in the evening instead of watching tv.
9. Who are your inspirations?
it starts with something i've read, or a song i'd heard. someone important to me. a lot of what i write gets to be a hypothesized exaggeration of my life. mostly, though, i take a minor situation, and blow it up from there.
10. Who are your favorite authors to read?
grisham. laura joh rowland. i used to adore laurell k hamilton, but lately i'm not so sure. i like the classics--austen, bronte, dickens. whatever the mood, usually. at the moment, i'm in the midst of reading a japanese detective novel set in Samurai Edo Japan, a graphic novel about multidimensional catastrophe, a spanish swordfighter a la 3 musketeers, contemporary religious black vampires, narnian talking horses, alien world-builders and destroyers, and cyber-theft and the common man.
