About Nix.
Shade:

He can't get the smell of sea and sand out of his nose.

He thinks it's partly to do with the way that they were lying on the beach, fresh from the Mediterranean and hair drying in lovers knots with the sand. For once, they have the beach to themselves, and the shade of the changing booths keep stretching across them and chilling them from the sun. He has his arms stretched as far as he can reach, letting the warmth reach every piece of him that it could, a respite from the near constant rain of two weeks between Greece and Italy. It's nothing like Boston, or even California.

His fingertips keep brushing up against her arm, no more than a verification of her presence while he stares up at the infinite blue of the sky. He'll go blind soon, he's sure of it. but he's trying to decide if he has a paint that color blue, that electric shocking blue that is unbroken by land or sea or cloud in his eyesight. He flicks his fingers again, coarse grains of sand dragging between his skin and hers, and he feels her hand wave out in his general direction, sending a little wave of sand his way.

"Leave me alone, bambino."

A smile quirks up his lips, and Nix can't stop himself from bothering her again, intentionally riling her up.

"Stop it, Nixy."

"Make me." He glances her way with a smirk, reaching down instead to tickle at her side. Shay lets out a squawk of laughter before launching herself at him.

"You're going to pay for that, amore mio!"

He skitters out from under her with a whoop, running off toward the surf, leaving the shade behind. The beach is stretching long, sand hot between his toes as he dodges her and half-chases her into the surf.

She trips him up, just where the sand meets the incoming tide, his face falling just beneath a wave. He can't get the smell of sand and sea out of his nose.

this makes me smile. and god it makes me wish i were somewhere warm and sunny and on a beach, instead of this godforsaken cold hanover place.

one thing i must correct is actually a problem with my own italian from years back -- il mio amore ought to be amore mio. but that's totally my mistake, before i really understood more of how the language worked and relied mostly on internet translators.

this is lovely, though, and makes me smile a lot.
